A lot of issues have actually arose after JAMB made known their New admission policy that binds all institutions which includes Universities, Polytechnics etc. To tell the truth, many candidates have expressed their displeasure at JAMB, considering the board to have neglected their right to chose where to study whereby eliminating their “Freedom of choice” as they felt this is against the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and should not be encouraged.

Yesterday, there was a protest in UNILAG where candidates whose names were not sent to the school for POST UTME application felt discouraged. Affected candidates/Guardians/Parents blamed JAMB for this deliberate unfortunate incident and have seeked the intervention of the board before matters blows out of proportion. According to JAMB, candidates who have chosen schools with higher intake of applicants for that year but scored below 220,250 in most cases will be reshuffled into schools with lesser applicants.

Now JAMB has not really made  it clear if these candidates will be sent to Private institutions after they had earlier applied in a Public institution or not and this has actually been the bone of contention among candidates.

Dose JAMB New Policy affect all schools?

According to the board, this new policy only affects schools with more numbers of applicants. Universities with surplus applicants for the Unified Matriculation Examinations (UTME) are reassigned to other universities with lower number of candidates than their capacities. So it affects schools with more candidates irrespective if it is a state or federally owned institution.

What Next?

Candidates affected by this JAMB tsunami are expected to seek the opinion of the board as to where their names have been posted to until this issue is resolved amicably. But before you purchase any of these forms, do check if you are eligible to apply in any of these schools before going ahead.

Just to let you know, Yesterday, NANS actually issued a statement and has called on JAMB for immediate reversal of this new policy as it violates the right to choose.
