The vice chancellor of the University of Ilorin, Prof AbdulGaniyu Ambali, has launched the university’s ‘Students Starter Pack’, a brainchild of the institution’s students’ union.
Speaking at the ceremony, Ambali congratulated the union executive committee, saying that the starter pack was a demonstration of what Unilorin stands for.
The starter pack, which would be distributed to all fresh students of the university includes a branded Unilorin bag, a T-shirt, a customised USB, students’ orientation CD, a note book, students’ handbook, students union constitution and information on Ebola prevention measures.
The VC stated that the students have demonstrated that the degree awarded by the institution was truly for learning and character, adding that the executive committee of the union had shown that they would keep the flag of the university flying higher.
He said, “Unilorin has produced several executives and leaders in all spheres of life. Our alumni are everywhere. It shows that we are doing what is right and that students are learning well. The management and the students’ union are on the same page and there is synergy between us.
Commending the students’ Union for using ICT to service the students better, Ambali said, “you are adding value to the students.
And you will be ready to serve Nigeria when you graduate. Nigerians should watch out for Unilorin graduates”.
He told the students’ union leaders that they would serve the country well because they were already serving their fellow students well just as he added tat several companies would be waiting for them when they leave the University. “You have opened a new page in the history of the University”.
The president of the students’ union, Mr. Ahmed Ishowo Yakub, while presenting the items contained in the starter pack, noted that the union got permission from the VC to go ahead with the project, stressing that it was only right to report back to him with the items
