QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates for the positions listed must satisfy the following criteria:-

(i)         Professors

(a)        Candidates must be holders of Ph.D. in relevant fields with not less than 10 years teaching, research and professional/industrial experience after the doctorate degree in a University system;

(b)        The candidate should also show evidence of distinguished contribution to scholarship;

(c)        He/She should show evidence of exceptional research record and a reasonable number of scholarly publications in reputable journals, both local and international;

(d)        He/She should show evidence of proven teaching ability, evidence of capability to initiate and carry out independent research work as well as supervise student research and projects;

(e)        The person should possess sound administrative skills and show evidence of participation in administration within the University system;

(f)        The candidate for this position in the Faculty of Engineering must be a registered member of COREN.

(g)        Evidence of computer proficiency is required.

(ii)        Readers

As in (a) above with a minimum of 7 years cognate teaching, research and academic administrative experience in a University system.  Candidates for this position in the Faculty of Engineering must be registered members of COREN.

(iii)       Senior Lecturers/Principal Librarians

Candidates should be holders of Ph.D. in the relevant field with not less than 5 years cognate teaching and research experience in the University system.  He/She should have outstanding teaching ability and effectiveness as a University lecturer.  The candidate should have a reasonable number of scholarly publications in reputable journals.  He/She should be able to initiate and carry out independent research work and also supervise students’ research projects up to the doctoral level.  The candidate for this position in the Faculty of Engineering must be a registered member of COREN.

Candidates for this position in the Library Department must possess a good degree plus professional post-graduate qualification e.g. MLS, PG Diploma in Librarianship with at least 8 years post-qualification experience OR a professional qualification e.g. ALA, FLA with at least 8 years post-qualification experience.  In addition, candidates must have at least two publications in reputable refereed journals.

(iv)       Lecturer I/Senior Librarians

Candidates should be holders of Ph.D. in the relevant fields with not less than 3 years teaching and research experience in a University/Institutions of higher learning.  In addition, candidates must have at least 3 publications in reputable refereed journals.

 

Candidates for the post of Senior Librarian must possess a good degree plus professional post-graduate qualification e.g. MLS, PG Diploma in Librarianship with at least 6 years post-qualification experience OR a professional qualification e.g. ALA, FLA with at least 6 years post-qualification experience.  In addition, candidates must have at least one publication in reputable refereed journals.

 

(v)        Lecturer II/Librarian I

Candidates must be holders of Ph.D. in the relevant fields; and must show teaching and research abilities; or Masters degree or its equivalent plus at least 3 years relevant teaching, research and/or industrial experience.

Candidates for the post of Librarian I must possess a good degree plus professional post-graduate qualification e.g. MLS, Post-graduate Diploma in Librarianship with at least 4 years post-qualification experience, OR

A professional qualification e.g. ALA, FLA with at least four years post-qualification experience.

(vi)       Assistant Lecturers/Librarian II

A good Masters degree or its equivalent qualification.  At least a Second Class (Honours) degree or its professional equivalent plus at least 3 years relevant teaching, research and/or industrial experience.

Candidates for the post of Librarian II must possess a good degree plus professional post-graduate qualification e.g. MLS, post-graduate diploma in Librarianship with at least 3years post-qualification experience, OR

A professional qualification e.g. ALA, FLA with at least three years post-qualification experience.  Evidence of computer proficiency is required for all positions.

CONDITIONS OF SERVICE

Successful candidates will be required to assume duty as soon as possible and will be on probation for the first three (3) years.  Thereafter, they will retire at the approved age of 65years.  Candidates could be allowed to transfer their service to the Rivers State University of Science and Technology.  Other conditions are similar to those obtaining in other institutions of higher learning in Nigeria.
