The authorities of the Osun State Polytechnic, Iree, have signed a Memoranda of Understanding with some foreign institutions, including the Sussex University, London.
The partnership is to enable the institutions to collaborate in running higher degree courses.
The Rector of the polytechnic, Dr. Jacob Agboola, said this at Iree on Monday during the matriculation of 2,800 students of the institution.
Agboola, who said the partnership would boost the students’ exposure and experience, added that it would stand them out among their colleagues.
He said, “In term of expansion of programme, the institution has signed several memoranda of understanding with foreign and local institutions to give our students greater international academic opportunities and exposure.
“We have MoU with the Sussex University in London to give special concession to our graduates interested in pursuing higher degrees. We have also signed agreement to collaborate with Cape Coast Polytechnic, Ghana for top-up programme for our HND graduates to acquire degrees in engineering, building technology and accounting. Only one other institution in Nigeria enjoys this privilege.
“The polytechnic’s collaboration with the Virginia State University in the United States focuses on the development of agricultural science, science, technology and engineering. The agreement will also provide opportunity for some of our students to go to the university in the United States on exchange programme.”
Urging the federal and state governments to invest more in the sector, Agboola said that polytechnic education was vital to enhancing technological advancement of any country.
He said that no nation could be greater than the level of its technological advancement while urging the authorities to pay more attention to education.
The rector, who hailed Governor Rauf Aregbesola for his support to the institution, explained that his assistance had helped in the accreditation of its courses.
He also warned students against engaging in cultism or violence, saying the school has zero tolerance for indiscipline.
