Flag Officer Commanding Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral Jonathan Ango, has said that the Nigerian Navy is increasing its secondary schools in the south-west as part of its contribution to the improvement of the country’s standard of education.

Ango stated this on the sidelines after inspecting a newly built Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Imeri, in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State.

According to him, the naval schools have attained high standards and rating.

He said, “Now the Nigerian Navy secondary schools have recorded a high standard of performance in West African Examinations Council. For the past two years, Nigerian Navy secondary schools in Ojo and Abeokuta have recorded almost 95 per cent pass in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination.

“Arising from this, we feel we should increase our scope by building more schools in the region.

He thanked Senator Bode Olajumoke for facilitating the acquisition of the land for the school at Imeri.

“We have opened the school. Although it has yet to develop fully, the standard of teachers and laboratory equipment is very high. The standard is centralised from the Directorate of Naval Education,” Ango added.

The Naval chief also noted that the Nigerian Navy Officers Wives Association would establish schools of high standards to complement the efforts of the Chief of Naval Staff in providing access to quality education to Nigerians.
