The vice chancellor of the Federal University of Education, Zaria, Prof Ibrahim Adamu Kolo has assured that no member of staff of the old Federal College of Education will be retrenched as a result of the conversion, noting that the conversion will open windows of opportunities for educational development.

Prof Kolo who spoke in Minna in a meeting with the academic staff of the institution said that elevation of the College to the status of a specialised University of Education by the Federal Ministry of Education was worthwhile.

While congratulating the members of the academic community of the new University, he stated that “nobody will be retrenched, following the conversion of the College into a University of Education status”.
According to him, rather than entertain fears of retrenchment, the new university would open further windows of opportunities for staff career enhancement and development.
The vice chancellor revealed that all staff would be appraised with a view to a fair and appropriate placement in the Graduate Specialised Teacher Education Programme to be developed for the University.

He stated that those who could not fit into the new programme, will be offered the opportunity and support to either go for relevant higher degrees or be placed in other Teacher Education Training compartments to be put in place.
