The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has welcomed the establishment of a University of Medical Sciences in Ondo State.

In a statement given to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Abuja on Friday, NANS described the development as first of its kind in Nigeria and third in Africa.

The statement, signed by Mr Timileyin Ayenuro, NANS’s Vice- President, National Affairs, commended Gov. Olusegun Mimiko of Ondo for his efforts toward approval of the university by National Universities Commission.

“Nigerian students appreciate Mimiko for his massive contributions and efforts aimed at uplifting the education and health standards of Ondo people.

“This will impact greatly on Nigerian students who have interest in medical and health discipline and also promote Ondo state in terms of education and health’’, it said.

According to the statement, Mimiko is passionate about the growth of the state, not only in education but also in areas of health, agriculture and environment.

The statement also urged the governor to give urgent attention to the Ondo State University of Science and Technology, Okitipupa, in terms of infrastructure and upgrading of equipment. (NAN)
