The Registrar/Chief Executive Officer, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, has urged parents and guardians not to impose courses of study on their children and wards.
Ojerinde’s appeal came as some All Progressives Congress members, including Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, urged youths to endeavour to take their education seriously.
Besides Onu, a former Minister of Information, Chief Tony Momoh, as well as the party’s Auditor, Mr. George Moghalu, advised them to continue to pay attention to their studies.
They spoke during the seventh graduation ceremony of the Pace Setters Schools, Abuja.
According to Ojerinde, there is the need to allow children to make their choices so that they can become what they want to be.
Onu, who was the father of the day at the event, urged youths not to be discouraged by the current happenings in the country.
He said, “Nigeria believes in you. Never you go home and say it is over. We place so much faith and confidence in the activities of young people for the greatness of our beloved nation. You represent a future that is bold. Nigeria has a bright future. You should not be discouraged with how things are now because the best has yet to come.
“You should always remember that honour, duty and honesty will go with hard work for they are the secret of success. Be of good character and strive for that which is just and good. Love our country, for you have no other one. Above all, love God because He will never fail. Your future is what you make of it.”
Momoh said youths would remain the champions and architects of Nigeria in the next 20 years.
He advised them not to fail the country but to be in the vanguard of those that shall lift it to greater glory.
Moghalu urged them to continue to seek excellence to justify their parents’ investment in them.
The Chairman, Board of Directors of the school, Mr. Kenneth Imansuangbon, said the school had affected the pupils positively.
He said, “We have been able to impact, make changes and transform lives. We have prepared them for tomorrow challenges. Our pupils are some of the best in the world. Besides, we are creating pupils that are confident and will take the Nigeria project to higher level and help its democracy.”
