Authorities of the Ebonyi State University have said they are deeply concerned over the issuance of fake admission letters to applicants by scammers.
Internet scammers were said to have printed hundreds of copies of fake Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination results as well as the university’s admission letters and prospective students were issued with both documents.
An internal memo from the office of the ICT/Research Centre of the university dated 20th October, 2015 signed by one Mr. Chinagolum Ituma and copied to the Registrar, Bursar, Deans and Heads of Department including Director of Academic Planning, said authorities were seriously concerned over the circulation of fake JAMB results and admission letters.
The academic planning unit of the university was directed to monitor the printing of JAMB result slips at the ICT centre, the memo added. “In line with the recent development in printing of fake JAMB result by cyber café/business centres, the academic planning unit will now be involved in the monitoring of printing of JAMB result by EBSU ICT.”
It said the new directive was to avoid the spread of fake JAMB results, and asked prospective candidates to do their online verification and printing of original JAMB result at the school’s own ICT center.
The statement however directed all faculty officers to strictly comply with the directive. Meanwhile, a proprietor of a cyber café, Owester,in Abakaliki, Mr. Fidel Joseph, attributed the development to some crook cyber café operators, business centres and desirous candidate.
