As I steadily focus my attention in the London 2012 Olympic held, I discovered that my beloved country Nigeriahave been maintaining a steady set back in the London Olympic performances. Either we take second to last or third to last and theses performances are really diminishing the image of sports in Nigeriaas a nation. Below are four reasons why Nigeria has not won a good number of medals, talk less of a wooden medal in the London Olympics:
Lack of training facilities: Nigeria is a very wealthy country, but I don’t know why we lack many training facilities that can aid the training of our youths in the area of fitness.
 Imagine, we do not have a standard swimming pool with all the facilities intact and in good working condition compared to the ones in foreign nations. Can you describe how a fish tastes to someone without getting a bite first? The answer is “NO.” we must first improve our facilities before we can think of coming out with flying colors in competitions like this.
Wrong Connections: it is not far from the truth that wrong connections have eaten deep into the bone marrows of this nation. How can you choose an athlete to perform based on the order of a “God Father” who is not in any way connected to sports. This is very bad! Should we continue to live in familiarity and forget that we have to earn ourselves the confidence to move forward.
Corruption: No doubt, corruption is in the country already. Should we keep athletes that are very good in a particular sport at home and take those that successfully bribed their ways to the top because of money? That is very wrong, we can not win medals if we don’t carry everybody along.
Over concentration on one area of sport: Nigeria is mainly concerned in just one area of sport “Football.” The game of football is one of the main concern of development in Nigeria and this has posed a serious threat to the development of other sporting activities in the nation. If we make the development of sports equal, then development will come to both the track and the field events
I believe with this few hints I have given, and if they are put into consideration, then our nation will be at the top of her game in any sporting event held in any part of the world. I know we are able and capable to bring out the USAIN BOLT of the world from Nigeria.
