The Federal University Gusau, Zamfara State yesterday marked its first matriculation exercise since its establishment in 2013.
Meanwhile, the university has three faculties, 17 departments and 27 courses of various degree courses.
In his address, the vice chancellor of the university, Prof Benchucks Okeke, said among all the newly established universities, the Federal University Gusau is the only one having a permanent site which is a record of remarkable physical development.
He said academic sessions had already commenced for the 2014/2015 academic session with admission of first set of students at 100 level and those now matriculated and qualified as bonafide students of the university.
Okeke assures the students of excellent and high quality training for all the programmes, but, however, urged the students to work hard for their personal success, considering the huge investment by both federal and state governments.
Zamfara State Governor, Abubakar Yari who spoke through the Secretary to the state government, Alhaji Haruna Sallau Tsafe said government has offered a lot of commitment to ensure that the institution becomes a reality.
The governor disclosed that his administration has provided a land for the establishment of the university and committed over N700m for the payment of compensation, while it also provided vehicles for the principal officers of the university.
He also added that grant for the construction of classrooms will soon be released, while giving assurance that road network will also be provided in the university.
