The National Directorate of Education has issued a memo invalidating foundation/diploma certificates for admission into any degree programmes in any Nigerian University. The memo was signed by Sulaman Y. Muhammad Director (Admissions) For Registrar/Chief Executive of the National Directorate of Education.

Below is the official release by the Board:

REF JAMB/ADMS/UNI/60. VOL. 1

RUNNING OF FOUNDATION AND DIPLOMA COURSES
1. The Board has observed with dismay that some Universities still run Foundation and Diploma Programmes, despite the fact that the Federal Ministry of Education, through the National Council on Education has outlawed it some years ago.

2. It is further observed that candidates use such Diploma Certificates to seek for admission into Degree Programmes through DIRECT ENTRY applications.

3. The Board wishes to reiterate that such qualifications (University Diplomas) are NOT ACCEPTABLE for admissions into Nigerian Universities through Direct Entry applications.

Please accept the assurances of the Registrar/Chief Executive of the Board that the above directive will continually be duly enforced.

The above decision of the National Universities Comission (NUC) against running of Diploma Programmes and Diploma Certificate by Universities, is hereby circulated for the information and attention of Faculties and the University’ Public . It is to be emphasized that “DIPLOMA CERTIFICATES AWARDED BY A UNIVERSITY WILL NOT BE ADMISSIBLE IN ANOTHER UNIVERSITY.
