Mr. Uchenna Uhuegbu from Odunmara, Orodo, Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State, has been sentenced to death at the Owerri High court for the murder of an eighteen month-old baby girl.
He was charged for killing the baby girl, Chimuanya Iwuagwu, who also comes from the town with him.
The deceased was said to be heading to throw away refuse with an elder relation and was accosted by the accused on their way.
According to the report gotten, the accused was very familiar with the family of the infant girl, her relation had no problem leaving the two and went to throw away the refuse.
Beside believing the prosecution’s account, the judge equally ruled that the young girl’s relation did not find the deceased on her return, it was now in the hands of the accused to account for the baby left under his care.
Justice Okoronkwo quoted the confessional statement the accused made to the police; he said that he heard a strange voice telling him to kill the little girl if his life was to be better.
