The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), yesterday, announced the winners of the National Distinction/Merit Award.

Master Babalola David Oluwasayo emerged first, Master Alabi Philip Toluwase second and Miss Nkata Lewechi Ugonma third among over a million candidates that sat for the May/June 2015 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

It was gathered that Babalola who is presently studying Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ibadan had his secondary education at Oritamefa Baptist Model School, Ibadan, Oyo State. Alabi who is also studying Medicine and Surgery at the University of Ibadan, UI finished from Our Lady and St Francis Catholic College, Osogbo, Osun State.

On his part, Nkata who finished his secondary school from Loyola Jesuit College, Federal Capital Territory, Abuja is presently studying Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The three students were not able to make it to the award ceremony due to academic engagements in their different schools but their families were present to receive the awards on their behalf.
