After 12 years of studying medicine without accreditation, the Benue State University College of Health Sciences has graduated its first set of medical students with 27 confirmed professional doctors.
The 27 medical doctors graduated out of 40 candidates that enrolled for the qualifying examinations which ended last weekend.
The state governor, Samuel Ortom, had paid for the accreditation of the health institution.
The provisional results were published after it was approved by the board of the College of Health Sciences and forwarded to the Senate of the University for vetting.
The Provost of the College, Professor Simeon Adebisi, said the College Faculty Board had certified the results and forwarded same to the university council.
According to Adebisi, the results would thereafter be taken to the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria for documentation after all the necessary registration and fees have been paid for the graduates’ induction.
The Chief Medical Director of the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH), Professor Orkurga Malu, expressed optimism that with the successful passing out of the doctors, the medical college would be graduating its students on a yearly basis.
