Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission responsibility is to regulate standards of performance for all electricity licensees and monitor performance to ensure that those standards are met and maintained or even exceeded.
About NERC
Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) is an independent regulatory body with authority for the regulation of the electric power industry in Nigeria. NERC was formed in 2005 under the Obasanjo administration’s economic reform agenda through the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, 2005 for formation and review of electricity tariffs, transparent policies regarding subsidies, promotion of policies that are efficient and environmentally friendly, and also including forming and enforcing of standards in the creation and use of electricity in Nigeria.
NERC was instituted primarily to regulate the tariff of Power Generating companies owned or controlled by the government, and any other generating company which has a license for power generation and transmission of energy, and distribution of electricity.

NERC General Recruitment Requirements
The minimum qualifications and experience for the role are as follows:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Law, Accountancy, Economics, Finance Or Administration.
- Experience or professional qualifications in generation, transmission, system operation,distribution or marketing of electricity.
- Significant work experience in the Nigerian electricity industry or that of any other jurisdiction; or other comparable sectors that would demonstrate that the applicant can quickly obtain an understanding of the Nigerian electricity industry.
- A detailed understanding of the Nigerian electricity industry with particular expertise in regulation, regulatory law and economics, licensing and other regulatory practices, project finance, commercial transaction documentation and commercial contract management.
- A minimum of 15-years cognate experience in alternative dispute resolution resolving commercial disputes.
