A total of six students have emerged from the 2015 national Microsoft Office Specialist world championship 2015 edition and will be representing Nigeria alongside two ICT teachers at the 2015 world championship to be held in Dallas, Texax, USA.

The students namely Ochanya Elizabeth Idoko won Power Point 2013, while Nabai Clever Iboro was for Word 2013, both from Aduvie International School. Sidhant Bendre of British International School clinged Power Point 2010, Babington Adebusola Grace from The Holy Child Collge won Word 2010, Griffin Oluwatinuke Mitchell from Bellina College was for Excel 2013 won Excel 2010.

Idoko scored 985 in 22 minutes 9 seconds, Bendre had 979 in 21 minutes 45 seconds while Iboro scored 963 within 21 minutes 47 seconds.

Babington scored 954 in 19 minutes 19 seconds, Griffin had 868 within 33 minutes 7 seconds and Abure scored 32 minutes 28 seconds.

The managing director and initiator of ReadManna, initiator of the competition, Edna Agusto, spoke with LEADERSHIP and revealed that the competition which has become an annual event is poised to encourage students towards embracing the computer especially as everything globally has gone digital.

Ochanya Elizabeth Idoko: I havent been in it before. It made me improve on Microsoft. It has empowered me to do better presentations in my business career.

Umar Yakubu: It has given me an opportunity to express my skills to the world. The certificate will get me a better job in the future. Other children should get up and get themselves computer literate. The organisers gave us the opportunity to lean and Improve ourselves.

Nabai Clever: The competition built my seriousness towards ICT. It gaves an opportunity to people to improve themselves on microsoft. The program made me serious. I want to study chemical engineering but want to improve on ICT. Parents shouldn’t stop learning, they should get themselves to become computer literate.

Samantha Isichi: It has made me work harder. It helps to bring out the skills in individuals. Ladies shouldn’t think ICT learning is for men alone, they should get themselves computer literate.

Bello Abdulfatai, ICT teacher: It’s part of the school curriculum so the students learn it everyday. We expose them to the outer world’s day to day activity. Most of what is seen everywhere is theory work. The government should ensure more of practicals and shun complains like poor power supply and equip the schools with every necessary equipment to train student on ICT.

Osaigbovo Timothy, ICT teacher: Government should also deviate from oil and gas and invest in ICT.
