POTUS: The deadly terrorist attacks in Paris over the weekend spurred strong reactions around the world toward refugees fleeing Syria in record numbers. Even as the United States has committed to take in 10,000 refugees, governors across the country say they’re closing their borders to asylum seekers. Setting aside the legal question of how such restrictions would even be possible, it’s an approach that, as we’ve noted, could make the problem of terrorism even worse in the future.
President Obama has already said that the Paris attacks, while tragic, won’t change the country’s stance on welcoming refugees. Now, his social media team has taken this argument to Twitter in a lengthy tweetstorm:
Slamming the door in the face of refugees would betray our deepest values. That’s not who we are. And it’s not what we’re going to do.

We will provide refuge to at least 10,000 refugees fleeing violence in Syria over the next year after they pass the highest security checks.
