UNIBEN News Update: The Vice Chancellor of the University of Benin, Professor, Faraday Orumwense, has disclosed that there are no plans by the management of the institution to increase tuition as other institutions in the state.
Briefing Journalists in Benin on activities to herald the 41st convocation and 45th founder’s day ceremony of the institution, Prof. Orumwense said the event which is the first of his administration will witness the formal installation of the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammad Sanusi 11 as the 9thChancellor of the university.
According to him, there was an increase in the NHIS N400 fee by the NUC but insisted that “there are no intentions to increase the school fees and we don’t plan to increase it anytime”.
He said a total of 11, 020 graduants have been approved by the Senate of the university given the breakdown of the various degrees as “First Class, 64, Second Class Upper, 1671, Second Class Lower, 4346, Third Class, 1014, Pass, 3, Diploma, 268, unclassified, 533, Post graduate Diploma, 541, Master, 2212 and Doctorate (PH.D) 382” in the faculties of management Sciences, Agriculture, Education, Law, Life sciences, Engineering, School of Dentistry, School of Medicine, Pharmacy, Physical Sciences, Social Sciences, Art, Institute of Education and Institute of Public Administration and Extension services.
“Two illustrious son of the soil will each be conferred with a Honorary of the University, one of them is the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase who has proven himself worthy of his portfolio through demonstration of successes recorded in various assigned task. The second honoraria are Prof. Osato Giwa-Osagie a foremost Consultant Gynecologist who was one of the medical personnel that spear headed the successful innovation of the first Nigerian test tube baby”.
