FLOODING IN NIGERIA

It has been speculated that at least 25 million Nigeria are likely to experience flooding before this year wraps up. This was in accordance with the warning received on Friday with the National Emergency Management Agency(NEMA).
Mr. Yusha’u Shuaib, head of Public Relations in the agency mentioned the basins of the River Niger, Benueand Sokoto as the most flood prone area.

He said that the recent assessment undertaken by NEMA, had revealed that the flood plains of many of the country rivers are prior to flooding during the rains. According to their speculations, States that are prior to flooding include Rivers, Niger, Benue, CrossRivers, Katsina, and Imo.
Nigerian towns and cities are generally featured in poor drains and are therefore prone to flooding, more especially places like Aba, Lagos, Ibadan, Maiduguriand Portharcourt.
NEMA adviced people of the foreseen danger that lies ahead and urges authorities to relocate people in places that are likely to be affected.
