NIGERIA Deposit Insurance Corporation,NDIC, has donated an ultra modern library/bookshop worth about N40 million to the Enugu State University of Science and Technology, ESUT, as part of its efforts to support government programmes in developing the education sector.
Commissioning the bookshop named after the Vice President of Nigeria, Namadi Sambo, the chairman of NDIC, Ambassador Hassan Adamu said that “it was named after Sambo because of his love for education, from his time as governor of Kaduna State. He put education at the forefront and this is making Nigeria great.”
Adamu said that the NDIC has intervened virtually in all federal and state universities adding that ESUT was probably the last one to benefit from the gesture. “As part of our intervention and social responsibility, ESUT applied to us requesting for a library and we have granted the request,” he said.
Adamu who incidentally is the Chancellor of ESUTH urged students to make good use of the library/bookshop as it was built to enhance their learning. nSpeaking in an interview with newsmen shortly after the commissioning of the project, the Managing Director, NDIC, Alhaji Umaru Ibrahim said as a matter of policy, NDIC helped in funding various projects in universities and other institutions across the country for those that deserved them.
Umaru noted that apart from helping to fund such projects, the ‘’NDIC does not get involved in maintenance of such structure or facilities.’’
