The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has said that students and youths in the country deserved to be included in the incoming government under General Muhammadu Buhari because they were part of the struggle for the enthronement ‘change’ witnessed in the March 28 presidential election.
The national vice president of NANS (External), Comrade Ogunkuade Oluwatosin, who made the disclosure during a press briefing in Abuja at the weekend, also added that both students and youths were demanding for the inclusion because the ‘change’ Nigerians were yearning for has truly come.
He noted that Nigeria has over 45 million young people of which 90% of the population are often excluded from national decision making process on issues that affect them.
”Students can influence governance at all levels in Nigeria using the social media to monitor policy. While youths have bubbling enthusiasm which has to be utilised because we are fully of revolutionary thoughts to shape the world positively.
”Therefore, we demand a notable percentage of youth inclusion in the governance of General Muhammadu Buhari; and demand for students, interactive session with the President-elect to make our input in the transition process,” Oluwatosin said.
He pointed out that the world is now drifting towards inclusion of the younger generation in the scheme of things, adding that a 20 year old student was elected Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom.
”We salute the resilience and dogged spirit of the Nigerian students across all campuses in Nigeria and we to admonish General Buhari to justify the confidence of Nigerians by prioritising education and delivering on his electoral promises to all Nigerians, as he should be rest assured of our support and active cooperation with his administration,” he added
