LASU NEWS: The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) have made an appeal to the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, to pick the new Lagos State University (LASU) Vice-Chancellor based on merit.
The unions were worried over delay by government in announcing a new helmsman for the 32 year-old institution, since the Governing Council submitted the names of the three finalists that emerged from the screening on Wednesday last week.
It’s been said that the Selection Committee of the Council/Senate has recommended Prof. Olanrewaju Fagbohun, from the University of Lagos, who tops the list of the chosen, ahead of Prof Hamidu Sanni of the Islamic Studies Department, LASU and Prof Ibiyemi Bello from the Lagos State University College of Medicine, to Ambode to choose from.
Ahead of the screening for the LASU top job, ASUU and SSANU have openly told government of their determination not to work with any Vice-Chancellor who did not score first or emerge, based on merit, during the screening/interview.
