Since reduction of school fees is currently emancipating as the happening trend, the Abia State University (ABSU) took to her turn to slash their schools fees by 20% in a step of encouraging all capacity of students to further their education irrespective of the cash involved. The idea to slash the fees was initiated by the current Governor of the State, Theodore Orji.

Abia State Governor, Chief Theodore Orji, has approved a 20 per cent reduction in school fees across board for the state owned university, Abia State University, ABSU, Uturu.

Before the reduction, ABSU fees were one of the highest in the country which forced many students to drop out.

According to a statement by the Secretary to Abia State Government, Professor Mkpa Agu Mkpa, Governor Orji said the gesture was to boost education in the state.

According to the statement: “Following the present economic crunch in the country occasioned by the drop in oil prices in the international market, as a result of which students of ABSU and their patents are in great difficulty coping with the demands of their school fees in the institution, the Governor of Abia State, Chief T.A. Orji, as a demonstration of his sympathy with the plight of the students, their parents and guardians, has magnanimously approved the reduction of school fees payable by all students in Abia State University by 20 per cent across the board.

“This kind gesture of seeks to ameliorate the hardship currently being experienced by parents and students as a result of the said oil price fluctuations.

“Government, therefore, expects the staff, students and management of Abia State University, Uturu, to reciprocate the governor’s kindness by remaining disciplined and law abiding at all times.”
