A 100 level student of the Federal University of Technology, Akure, Saviour Okusenogu, has emerged winner in a science competition organised by Microsoft Corporation.
Okusenogu, an Electrical/Electronic Engineering student, is one of the 10 winners in the ‘Microsoft Youthspark Challenge for Change’ contest held recently.
For emerging the best in Africa, Okusenogu won a Surface Pro 3 Computing System, $2,500 cash, a window telephone, as well as a ticket to represent Africa in Nicaragua at the grand finale in August.
At a reception held for him at FUTA, Okusenogu, whose project title is ‘Become Inspired in Science and Engineering Technology,’ regretted that many young people had a wrong perception of science and technology.
“My project has to do with young adults and I decided to make a change by starting with the young people in secondary schools with the aim of inspiring them to have interest in science and technology,’’ he said.
Okusenogu promised to make Nigeria and Africa proud by working harder to excel in the global contest later in the year in Nicaragua.
Okusenogu is a former President of the Junior Engineering Technicians and Scientists.
The FUTA Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adebiyi Daramola, who expressed delight at his achievement, said he had further brought recognition to the university.
