Our great personality and first interview on this website is Samuel Nifemi Jumbo. Samuel Jumbo is an activist, a politician, a writer, and also a motivational speaker who hails from the prestigious world class Island of Bonny Town in Rivers State, Nigeria, and was born 27th May, into the Jumbo Major House family. Samuel has a great passion for humanity and that was one of his motivations for following the alleyway of politics.

He is also part of the team that has been working selflessly as an NGO (Non Governmental Organization) to see that peace and justice is restored to the victims of the boat Mishap in Bonny Island.

Recently, I spoke with Samuel Jumbo on the possibility of doing an interview here and he willingly obliged. This interview took several weeks to come on stream because of his busy schedules. I am happy he eventually found the time to talk with me even though our poor internet connection almost stopped us.

In this interview, Samuel Jumbo talks about “His Lifestyle” his “Aspirations” and all it entails. He also gave his passionate advice on how to be focused in life, including as a teenager. He talks about how to connect politically to the right people and leverage on the relationship to beat your competition, etc.

Well I shouldn’t say much because Samuel is ready to answer those questions you have been longing to ask him.

So Samuel, can you tell us the school you attended plus your educational experience?

Thank you for inviting me to such a honorable interview. Well, I attended Shekina Academy Nursery and primary school Bonny Island where I obtained my first school leaving certificate in 2003 and later on forged ahead with my Secondary school education at Government Comprehensive secondary school Borokiri Port Harcourt in 2009 where I obtained my Senoir Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE). While in secondary school I handled quite a number of positions; ranging from associations to school prefectship.

 

So do you mind mentioning some of these positions?

Ok. Though I can’t remember most of the positions, but I can vividly spell out the very few that has brought me to limelight. In Secondary school, I was made the Sanitary prefect in my class, within the period of JSS1 to SS2. Later on, I was made the disciplinary prefect and that was the position that crowned my effort in Secondary school.

You made mention of some associations you partook in school, do you mind sharing your positions and how you impacted to these associations?

Yeah! I was a member of the Art Student Association of Nigeria Rivers Chapter. As a member of this association, I started up as the assistant secretary of the comprehensive Unit and later on became the president of the Unit in 2008. I was also appointed as the interim board chairman of the association state level and that was within the period our then elected Excos’ were sitting for their WAEC examination. I stood in the gap until they completed there examination.

Then in 2009, I was elected the State executive President 2009/2010 administration which threw me into an amiable position of controlling all schools in Rivers State (Some Private Schools Inclusive).

You said you are a motivational speaker, politician and a writer. Can you briefly tell us about it?

Sure. Of a truth, I am indeed a motivational speaker, a politician and a writer. And I can courageously say that I have been a source of inspiration to people around me, not by supporting them with monetary gifts; but with the cool words of an experienced young man, of which today, most of them who have in one way or the other passed through me keeps appreciating my leadership skills which have taken them to where they are today.

I learnt you are a student of Osun State University, can you please tell us a little bit about your Tertiary education?

Just as you have said, I am a final year student of Osun State University currently studying International Relations and English, although I had wanted studying law but I was offered International Relations which I accepted because of its connection to law which has been my passion. Of cause there is no stopping me from doing my second degree in law. Some will say “Nifemi, why not go for masters instead of spending extra years in acquiring another degree.” I just smile because I do know my vision and mission.

You talked about knowing your vision and mission, can you tell us about this vision and mission of yours?

(Smiles)I think for now, I rather leave it to be personal for some certain reasons known to me. But in no distant time it will be crystal clear to all. Thanks.

So what is your religious affiliation?

Well, I was born into a Christian family, of which does not guaranty my being a Christian. Anyway, I gave my life to Christ in 2008 or there about at Salvation Ministry, Birabi Street, GRA, Port Harcourt and ever since then I have been a good Christian.

Wow, that’s interesting. So are you by any chance holding any portfolio in the church?

Ha ha ha ha ha (Samuel Laughs).Not at all. I go there, serve my God and leave, and that’s me for you.

Talking about church, most Christians at your age are married, do you mind telling us about your marital status?

Hahaha (Samuel Laughs). Well, i am not married but i am kind of in an open relationship with someone. I so much believe that when the time comes for marriage, you will be the first to know

I have heard some rumors about you handling a position in the Students Union Government of Osun State University, how true is this?

It’s no rumor. Actually, I was the 2012/2013 administrative president of the Students Union currently known as College Association just to curb the Aluta powers. Hmmmmm! let me just end it here, maybe next time I will be talking more about this.

You are from the south-South, So How did you find yourself schooling in the South Western Part of Nigeria and above all, handled such position?

One Nigeria as we use to say. So irrespective of your tribe or ethnic differences, we are one. Let’s say that right from my childhood, I have had this undying desire to school in the West and that has engineered me towards achieving this goal. My being the SUG President was not just God alone, but it has been a dream and the power of spoken words. Above all, I think fate has its way of doing things.

My Style: I seek for whatever I want with humility even though I deserve them. I am always open hearted and sincere and never will I trade my conscience for anything. The truth is my standard and I love God and always willing to pay the price in order to achieve the prize. God willing, the sky is not my limit.

Thank you Samuel, but just before you leave, what advice do you have for the youth?

My advice to the youth is for them to believe in themselves, put God first in all their activities. Push until something happens. Yes, there are risks and costs, but the end thereof will be great if you don’t give in to discouragement.

Always have your eyes fixed to the crown ahead. There is no dignity at every beginning but honor comes at the end. That’s’ if you’re patient enough anyway.
