Former National Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Prof Attahiru Jega, yesterday returned to his teaching job at the Bayero University, Kano (BUK) following the expiration of his tenure at INEC last week.

Jega, who arrived at the university at about 10am amidst rousing reception by staff and students, first reported to the Vice Chancellor to signify his resumption of duty .

The former INEC chairman had on several occassions disclosed his desire to return to classroom soon after the expiration of his tenure.

Receiving the INEC boss, in his office, the Vice Chancellor of BUK Prof Abubakar Rasheed, said the university community was happy to have Jega back whom he described as the institutions’ great ambassador.

He said, “Bayero University, Kano is indeed proud of you Prof Attahiru Jega, you are really a good ambassador to this great institution”, According to him, university’s name has been projected in high esteem by the good work of Jega, saying that Bayero university will never forget Jega, for conducting the most freeist and fairest election ever.

In his brief address, Jega told the vice chancellor that right from the day he set out for the INEC job, he went with desire to return after his tenure.

Jega disclosed that teaching has been one job he cherished and this informed his decision to return to classroom, barely seven days after quiting the plumb job of chief electoral umpire.

He promised to deliver his very best in teaching, research and community service. Jega also expressed appreciation to the university community for the reception accorded him
