The Rector, Delta State Polytechnic, Dr Clara Sogbaike has said that only students properly groomed in Information Technology can survive in a world that has become a “global village. She stated this during the institution’s 13th Matriculation ceremony held recently.

According to her, the school was given the mandate to excel in Computing and Information Technology stressing that the mandate is predicated on the fact that the world today is ICT –driven and only students properly groomed in Information Technology can survive in a world that has become a “global village”.

Dr Clara Sogbaike enjoined the students not to engage in unproductive and unwholesome activities such as cultism, examination malpractice, acts of hooliganism and scandalous acts inimical to their academic growth at the Polytechnic.

She was particularly grateful to the State Governor, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan for his immense contribution to the development of the Polytechnic. She thanked the Governor for prompt payment of staff salaries and for the monthly subvention by State Government to the Polytecvhnic.

The highpoint of the ceremony was the administration of the Matriculation oath on the students by the Registrar, Mr. Benson Omonode who advised the students to prove their mettle by being focused while exploring their latent creative abilities as students of the Polytechnic.

Meanwhile, in his goodwill message, the Commissioner for Higher Education, Hon. Charles Emetulu, represented by Mrs. Bridget O. Odobor said that Delta State Polytechnic, Otefe-Oghara, has witnessed an unprecedented tempo of development in infrastructural facilities and personnel over the years.

According to the Commissioner, the Delta State Government has gone all out in ensuring that the quality of teaching and learning is not compromised. He commended the efforts of the Rector and Management of the Polytechnic for undertaking developmental projects that are complementary to the efforts of the State Government.

Responding to questions from our correspondent, Mr. Wilberforce Ofotokun, the Public Relations Officer of the Polytechnic said that the Matriculation Ceremony will afford parents and first time visitors the opportunity to see for themselves the giant strides recorded by the Rector, Dr. Clara Sogbaike, through the provision of academic and sophisticated infrastructural amenities at the Polytechnic.

Mr. Ofotokun said he has been advocating for a female president for Nigeria most especially after experiencing the good works of the Rector.
