About Bonny Utility Company (BUC)

Bonny Utility Company (BUC) is the Power Distribution Company for the Bonny Kingdom. BUC started as an initiative of the Joint Industry Companies (SPDC, Mobil, and NLNG) which undertook to supply electricity, water, roads, and other amenities to Bonny Island. This followed the memorandum of understanding (MOU) signed between these companies and the Bonny kingdom, in 1998

Under the MOU, the JIC among other projects agreed to upgrade the existing power distribution system and replace stand-alone diesel-driven generation by gas turbine generation from their installations, in Bonny Town. The project comprises a new power generation plant and a high voltage and low voltage distribution grid. Part of the agreement was that while the JIC would deliver the project, the community with assistance from the JIC would set up a Board to manage the power system.

BUC will strive to provide its customers with safe, reliable electrical energy in the most economical and efficient way while providing the services to accomplish that task quickly and professionally.
