THE Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) and the National Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE), Ogun State have dissociated themselves from the ongoing strike action embarked upon by workers in the state.
Consequently, they have directed their members not to join the strike, as they were not part of the Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), which called the industrial action.
Ogun State government workers Tuesday began a three-day warning strike to force their employer to meet their demamnds on some issues.
The strike paralysed all activities at the state secretariat, government parastatals as well as public secondary and primary schools. .
The aggrieved workers are asking the government to pay them four months “unremitted deductions,” allegedly made by the government from their salaries. .
Head of Service of the state, Mrs. Modupe Adekunle, said the strike was not total, as some workers turned up for work, without any harassment or intimidation from any quarters.
However, a sharp division was recorded between the teachers’ bodies, as the NUT and the Academic Staff Union of Secondary School (ASUSS) sang different tunes.
The state chapter of the NUT as well as the Academic Staff Union of Secondary Schools (ASUSS), on Tuesday differed on the strike. .
While the NUT distanced itself from the strike, ASUSS leadership mandated all its members to observe the strike action.
