KOGI – The divisional Police Station of the Nigerian Police and unity Bank Iyara, In Ijumu Local Government Area in Kogi State were on Sunday bombed with locally manufactured grenades which led to the death of an officer and injury to the other.
Reports states that 20 armed robbers started the attack late Friday night at 9pm, dividing themselves into two groups, one attacking the Police station and the other attacking the Bank.
According to eyewitness, a corporal was shot dead but a female constable was very much lucky to escape with bullets wounds.
She was immediately rushed down to an undisclosed hospital where she is currently receiving treatment.
The commissioner of Police Mohammed Musa confirmed the incident and commended his men for putting up a strong defense against the robbers.
Mohammed realized that armed robbers no longer use guns alone but locally made grenade to cause havoc.
He said that their aim for bombing the station was to dsitabilize his men and to steal weapons but all to no avail.
He promised that the suspects will not go unpunished.
