Protest is one of the numerous ways students are able to express their concerns over matters and decisions that they disagree with. Institutions have been actively involved in this process, AAU was not left out. What came out as a supposedly organized peaceful protest turned around to be an avenue where gun shots were released.

In a recent update, the Ambrose Alli University Ekpoma (AAU) has been Shut Down till further notice due to the ongoing protest by students of the institution in regards to the hike in fee.

According the fellow students, the  protest was bloody as a student was shot on the leg.Though it was claimed that no life was lost during the protest.

A press statement signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Edward Aihevbe, has it that the decision to close the institution indefinitely was reached after the University’ Senate reviewed the students’ protest.
He said the university’s Senate viewed the protest as uncalled for and unnecessary as management was already looking into their grievances. The students barricaded the Benin-Ekpoma-Auchi highway.He denied social media report that two students were shot by security agents.

He said the students were given until 4pm to vacate the institution. “No student was shot. They barricaded the highway and soldiers escorting an an Army vehicle that was passing the road had to shoot into the air to scare the students away.
