AAUA News”: The Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko (AAUA), in Ondo state, would be graduating a total 4, 310 students for the 2013/2014 session at its convocation ceremony coming up on Friday 18 and Saturday 19, December 2015.
Prof. Igbekele Amos Ajibefun, Vice Chancellor of the University, made the disclosure on Wednesday at a press conference to herald the institution’s 6th convocation ceremony.
Ajibefun said the convocation which is the major highlight of the activities of the university is an occasion for the Vice Chancellor to present students who have found worthy in character and learning after completing a course study for the award of first and higher degrees and diplomas.
He disclosed that of the 4,310 graduating students, 4, 053 will earn First Degree with 18 graduating with First Class; 787 earning Second Class Upper Division; 2, 500 obtaining Second Class Lower Division; 702 making Third Class while 46 students graduating with Pass.
The Vice Chancellor added that in the Post-Graduate programme, 130 students would earned Master’s degrees, 20 will bag PhD degrees while 107 will obtain Diplomas.
According to him, the Faculty of Social and Management Science has the highest figure of 634, followed by the Faculty of Science, 627; Faculty of Education, 582; Faculty of Arts, 379 and Law, 49.
Prof. Ajibefun added that the institute of Part-Time Programme and the institute of Education graduated 436 and the institute of Education, 1, 346 respectively.
He further explained that an Honorary degrees will also be conferred on the President of the African Development Bank and former Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the Olugbo and Paramount Ruler of Ugbo Kingdom, Oba Frederick Obateru Akinruntan, and Prof. Bolanle Awe, for their recognition of their contributions to the development of the society.
On the convocation lecture, the Vice Chancellor said a world scholar and former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission, Prof. Peter Okebukola, delivered and speak on the topic “Quality or Quantity: Positioning the Nigeria University System for the Challenges of Science and Technology in this Millennium.
Prof. Ajibefun, however, added Adekunle Ajasin University would continues to sustain its merit-driven admission and staff recruitment policies as well put measures in place to make them essential components of the institution brand.
He highlighted numerous achievement of the institution in the past years among which was the signing of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Alabama University in the United State of America for staff and student exchange
“Some of the exciting aspects of the MoU are that registered and selected students in Adekunle Ajasin University will be giving full tuition scholarships. For up to one academic year during study at Alabama State University”, Ajibefun said.
