About the Job

• We are seeking a Driver for the USAID Lagos Urban Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene Activity (LUWASH) in Nigeria. The project aims to increase availability and sustainable management of safe and climate-resilient water and sanitation services in Lagos, Nigeria.
• LUWASH will increase the availability, quality and use of safe water and sanitation services and improve the governance and sustainable management of associated sector institutions in Lagos.
• The activity’s objective is to expand and improve urban WASH service delivery and infrastructure through strengthened governance, increased accountability, and improved financial and technical capabilities of public water utilities and private sector providers. This position will be based in Lagos, Nigeria.
• The project has four components as follows: governance and institutional arrangements strengthened to deliver improved WASH services, public and private service provider performance improved, access to safe and sustainable water services increased, access to safe and sustainable sanitation increased and the quality of source water improved.

Responsibilities

• The project driver is responsible for driving and maintaining the project vehicle
• Serve as project driver for LUWASH official travel, including project-related trips within Lagos as well as other driving assignments as required
• Assist project employees and short-term consultants to arrive in a safe and timely manner to meetings, events, and other project-related activities
• Ensure cleanliness, tidiness, and good working condition of assigned vehicle
• Maintain high standard of service to both internal and external guests, and ensure passenger safety by obeying traffic laws, driving carefully, and ensuring each passenger wears a seatbelt
• Check assigned vehicle weekly to ensure it is operational and safe to drive. This includes checking the oil, radiator, fan belt, battery, brake fluid, wipers, tires, lights, and signals
• Initiate and supervise any repairs required on assigned vehicles and maintain repair records in the vehicle file
• Supervise routine maintenance of assigned project vehicle, including oil and filter changes, tune-ups, and professional cleaning
• Fulfill project reporting requirements and maintain records, including vehicle logs, vehicle routing, daily mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle condition
• Assist the finance and operations specialist to ensure vehicle insurance, registration, vehicle radio tax disc, and municipal tax discs are in the vehicle and are up-to-date

Qualifications

• Oral fluency in English
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience; Experience working for a U.S. company or NGO in Nigeria is preferred
• Valid Nigerian driver’s license and good driving record required
• Understanding of auto mechanics required; certification in mechanics or automobile maintenance beneficial
• Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
