UNILORIN News Update -Tragedy has enveloped the University of Ilorin community as a 200 level student of the institution, Onikenku Michael Atunde, who was said to have gone for swimming in the university since last Saturday was yet to return to the hostel.
As at press time, members of the Kwara state Fire Service and National Emergency Management Agency who have also been deployed to search for the student were yet to make any head way.
Vanguard reliably gathered that the student, Onikenku Michael Atunde of the department of Science Education a member of Man O war, was said to have gone missing since Saturday when he reportedly went for swimming.
Authorities of the university, it was gathered, have contacted the student’s next of kin.
Spokesperson of the university, Kunle Akogun in a statement made available to Vanguard on the development said “a member of the man’o war club was reported to have been calling for assistance in the river flowing behind the Parks and Garden Unit early Saturday.
“Rescue efforts coordinated by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Prof Nike Ijaya was immediately mounted, search still ongoing. Medical services have been on since yesterday.”
It is feared that the student might have been drowned at the university’s dam site.” It stated.
