Jos—The emphasis placed by the University of Jos on provision of high quality teaching with quality research has earned it Africa’s Centre of Excellence for Phyto-medicine Research Development.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Hayward Mafuyai, disclosed this while addressing journalists in Jos on the preparation for the 40th anniversary celebration and 27th and 28th combined convocation ceremonies.
Prof. Mafuyai also said the World Bank gave the institution an $8 million grant to conduct research in the development of new medicines, using natural plants and herbs.
To make access to information easier in the institution, the VC added the university would soon start online issuance of transcripts to ease the difficulties faced by graduates.
He said: “After 40 years, the University of Jos has produced over 150,000 from its regular, part-time, undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and certificate courses.
“In our efforts to achieve more and enhance our reputation nationally and internationally, we have developed new programmes relevant to the needs of our communities and the country.
“The university will soon commence the online issuance of Transcripts to considerably ease the difficulties some of our graduates encounter when seeking to obtain their transcripts.”
